i guess it was overdue.
log into b and notice a completely insane 1/2 plo game going. sit down with (what i thought was half a buyin), 3 other people seated with about 300 stacks each, so i figure there has been a lot of action, plus the average pot is like 85$.
i decide to do a full buyin when i notice something i couldnt believe; there was *no* max buyin. i could have sat with my entire roll.
at which point i realized that this game was either going to be very good or very bad, and decided to stick with my 100$ and see how things go for a bit.
good move.
as is often the case, one guy ran hot like the sun and apparently didnt have any idea what he was doing. on top of that i had maybe 3 decent starting hands the entire time we played.
here is an example of the caliber of play we are talking about:
flop is like KhQd3s, EP pots, button (mr run hot) pops, EP calls.
turn is a 7d, EP pots, button repots all in, EP calls. 650$ pot now.
river is a As, button flips AdAh4d8c, for top set. EP mucks.
at which point he ends up 'getting fancy' for about 40 minutes by running rediculously obvious squeeze plays and potting every flop.
which would have been great if i ever flopped more than bottom pair. on top of that, the dude he felted now bought back in for *600$*, at which point i gave up on plo at b and went bust, not in that order.
i sat in a couple of 3/6nlhe mixed games and was up about 85$ pretty quickly but started to fade in terms of concentration and quality of play. there were times where i would watch myself call down, knowing i was beat, but unwilling to walk away because i wanted to get unstuck from that plo session.
i quit both tables, down 100$, which put me down 200$ for the session over all. very disgusted with my play but there was once a time where i wouldnt have stopped playing until i tasted felt, so i gotta give myself credit for evolving.
plus i earned 70$ in rakeback this week, which helps, but i need to earn a min of 200$ a week before i see any of it.. that type of pressure really impacts my play badly. its very frustrating and i may have to stop playing there soon if i cant overcome this.
anyway, lessons learned:
i need to be willing to take breaks when im up, or even call it a night, and i absolutely need to keep an eye out for those hands where i stop making good folds. those are my achilles heel, and when they start popping up, i know its time for my session to end, if only temporarily.
i have an xbox360, i cant lose money slaying space dinosaurs in Turok.
b: orig roll: 550, current roll: 400 + possible 70$ rakeback if i dont go broke trying to get it all.
